PROJECTS

Devil's Cove (2022)

Set in New Quay, Wales, Devil's Cove is a short film which follows a grumpy, retired fisherman as he attempts to bond with his young and troublesome grandson. In his efforts to do so, he tells the tale of a violent encounter with a kraken he experienced in his younger years.

In my role as sound recorder, foley artist and editor, this project has presented a lot of opportunities for creative sound design, not only in creating the monstrous sounds of the vicious sea creature, but also in using the soundscape of a fishing town to reflect the evolving cross-generation relationship between the grandfather and grandson.

Leto (2022)

A decade after his untimely death, Helen is still struggling to cope with the loss of her teenage son, Luke. In an attempt to bring herself closure, Helen pays for an AI assisted service that allows her to revisit her final memory of Luke for a final goodbye. However, this only strengthens her desire to be reunited with Luke, as she starts to abuse the technology in an effort to undo the past.

Being a technological based sci-fi film in a retro-futuristic world, Leto was a fun opportunity to create the sound of analogue machinery and computers in a way that harkens back to science fiction films from the 1970s and 80s, in addition to using sound to build rhythm in montage sequences.

Choke (2021)

A psychological horror short film, about Eve, a 25 year old university graduate who is struggling to find her place in the world. When a career opportunity for her girlfriend creates a rift in their relationship, many of Eve's insecurities are brought to light in horrifying ways.

Sound design and editing in Choke was a key component to building tension and an unsettling atmosphere. Throughout the film, Eve experiences distressing hallucinations, allowing me to play around with subjective sound and audio panning to heighten the horror elements.
